ACLU Sues Feds for Prohibiting Photography

MANHATTAN (CN) - The ACLU sued the Department of Homeland Security on behalf of a man who was arrested for taking photos on federal property. One Libertarian Party member was interviewing another outside the Federal Courthouse when an officer in the Federal Protective Service told them it was illegal to take photos there, and arrested them.

When the cameraman, Antonio Musemeci, tried to photograph the arrest of the man he was interviewing, the officials forced him to the ground and took the video card from his camera, the ACLU said.

The civil rights group said that prohibiting noncommercial photography outside a federal building is clearly unconstitutional. It sued DHS, the Federal Protective Service and FPS Inspector Clifford Barnes, in Federal Court.
