ACLU Says Alabama Violates Voting Rights

ALABAMA (CN) - The ACLU claims the State of Alabama illegally disenfranchises citizens, denying them the right to vote for nonviolent crimes that do not involve "moral turpitude," as required by state law. The ACLU claims the Legislature defined the nine crimes of moral turpitude in 2003, but Attorney General Troy King expanded the list illegally in 2005, to include crimes such as sale of marijuana and other nonviolent offenses.
