JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - A state senator's bill would force doctors to ask women why they want an abortion. The bill by state Sen. Tom Dempsey, R-St. Peters, would require doctors to ask women about specific medical, social or economic reasons for the abortion. The women would not be required to answer.
Dempsey claims it would be useful for lawmakers to know if most abortions are sought due to relationship problems, financial concerns or other reasons.
The bill was discussed briefly but no vote has been taken.
