All But 3 Dead in Las Vegas Mass Shooting Identified

All but three of the 58 people killed in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night have been identified, the Clark County sheriff said Tuesday afternoon.

LAS VEGAS (CN) – All but three of the 58 people killed in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night have been identified, the Clark County sheriff said Tuesday afternoon.

At a 1 p.m. news conference, Sheriff Joe Lombardo told reporters the number of people killed remains 58, while the number of injured stands at about 527. He said the number of injured includes those who were shot, trampled, fell or otherwise hurt during the mass shooting at a concert near the Mandalay Bay casino by 64-year-old Stephen Paddock.

Lombardo also said Paddock's casino-hostess girlfriend, Marilou Danley, is a "person of interest," currently located in the Philippines and has been contacted.

He said Danley was traveling overseas when the massacre occurred and he very much wants to talk to her.

Lombardo said 23 firearms were recovered from Paddock’s hotel room, 19 at his home in Mesquite, and seven more at a residence in Reno.

At least one military-style rifle recovered at the hotel might have been modified with a bumpfire stock device that overrides the single-fire action of semi-automatic rifles, Lombardo said. The ATF and FBI will determine if any were modified for fully automatic firing.

Paddock also placed cameras inside and outside his hotel room to alert him to anyone coming to stop him, Lombardo said.

When the shooting started after 10 p.m. Sunday, Lombardo said local patrol officers formed a response team and evaluated the hotel's floors 29 through 32 to locate Paddock.

He said the security staff at the Mandalay Bay played a critical role in locating Paddock and helping to reduce the response time needed to engage him.

"What went right is we saved hundreds of lives," Lombardo said.

He said Paddock took his own life moments before a SWAT team entered the room.

The FBI is examining the 23 firearms recovered at the hotel room on the 32nd floor, as well as all audio and digital evidence gathered, Lombardo said.

At a 6 p.m. briefing, Assistant Sheriff Todd Fasulo said his department received the first calls of shots fired at 10:09 p.m. Sunday, and Paddock fired off his final shot at 10:19. The gunman fired off a dozen or so volleys while shooting "off and on" during the 10-minute period.

"That's a remarkable response by our police department," Fasulo said.

The assistant sheriff said a Mandalay Bay security officer was the first to engage Paddock, who shot the guard through the door or a wall. Fasulo did not say whether the security officer survived.

Paddock had two cameras placed in the hotel hallway and a third camera inside the room and looking out the door peephole to alert him of any police or security response.

Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak told reporters Tuesday that a GoFundMe campaign started yesterday has received more than $3.7 million of a targeted $4.5 million. He said MGM Resorts International pledged $3 million toward the campaign.

The money will go toward paying for the surgeries, medical costs and funeral expenses of victims, Sisolak said.

A family assistance center also is operating at the Las Vegas Convention Center to help family members of victims locate their loved ones.

Lombardo said family members located outside Nevada can call toll-free at (866) 535-5654 to report missing persons.

All lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard are expected to reopen Tuesday evening.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to tour Las Vegas Wednesday and visit with the families of victims.

Paddock was a retired accountant, real estate investor and a professional gambler. A motive for the rampage remains under investigation.

Previous reporting by Courthouse News put the death toll at 59, which law enforcement officials said Tuesday includes the gunman.
