LOS ANGELES (CN) - The oil tycoon's son Gordon Peter Getty II was sued during the holidays by his ex-wife Jacqueline, who says he failed to "preserve the lifestyle [she] had become accustomed to and had been promised."
Peter and Jacqueline were divorced in May 2009 after he reportedly broke her arm.
In her holiday suit, she alleges that before their marriage "Peter Getty agreed to financially support [her] in the same manner she had been accustomed, as if she was a member of the 'Getty family,' no matter what happened between the parties, so that she could fully devote herself to the 'Getty family.'"
Published reports say she is asking for about $800,000 per month to maintain the opulent Getty style, an amount that includes both lifestyle payments and spousal support.
To prove her devotion, the suit states that "Plaintiff left her career as a successful costume designer to devote to him, his family responsibilities and the 'Getty lifestyle.'"
"After approximately eighteen years of being in a relationship, of which nine years were marriage, Plaintiff and Defendant officially separated in approximately May, 2009 when it appeared that reconciliation was no longer feasible," the suit states.
It claims that Jacqueline continued to receive money from her ex-husband until September 2009.
"Peter Getty breached the implied agreement to support Plaintiff by ceasing to provide financial support in the manner in which Plaintiff had been accustomed as a member of the 'Getty family,'" the suit alleges.
Jacqueline seeks compensation for breaking the promise in addition to special damages among others. She is represented by Shelley Kaufman with Geragos & Geragos.
