TRENTON, N.J. (CN) - A woman who paid $7,000 to a matchmaking service wants her money back, claiming in court that it gave her only two "matches" in five months, and the only date she got was with "a man with 3 drunk driving convictions and [an] outstanding criminal warrant".
Jeanne McCarthy sued PMM Inc. dba Two of Us, in Mercer County Court.
She claims the Lawrenceville, N.J.-based "professional matchmaking" service charged her a non-refundable fee of $7,000 and promised her "quality matches at the rate of one or two during every two-week period."
The "membership agreement" promised that "'Two of Use provides for the initial member interview, member testing, background checks and overall evaluation and screening,'" according to the complaint.
It continues: "However, after signing the contract and tendering the fee of $7,000.00, Two of Us provided only two matches over a five-month period, which yielded only one date. To her horror, plaintiff determined that this one date involved a man with 3 drunk-driving convictions and an outstanding criminal warrant in Arizona."
McCarthy wants her money back, treble damages and punitive damages for breach of contract, fraud in the inducement, and consumer fraud.
