ST. LOUIS (CN) - Two security services failed to prevent a disgruntled employee's mass shooting that killed three and injured five at the ABB factory here in January, eight families claim in separate complaints in City Court.
Timothy Hendron shot up the St. Louis plant on Jan. 7, then killed himself. He was a party to litigation accusing the company of taking unjustified fees from workers' 401(k) accounts. ABB makes transformers at its St. Louis plant.
Families of the injured and dead workers claim Securitas Security and Whelan Security and their employees allowed ABB employees to carry weapons onto the property, allowed Hendron to carry weapons onto ABB property when they knew or should have known he was a disgruntled employee, failed to warn other employees, and failed to stop Hendron after he started shooting.
All eight complaints were filed by Ed Hershewe of Joplin, Mo.
Whelan was sued in February for another St. Louis-area mass shooting. Survivors of Connie Karr, a Kirkwood City Councilwoman who was gunned down at City Hall on Feb. 7, 2008, sued Whelan in St. Louis County Court. That litigation is pending.
