HOUSTON (CN) - Student Movers demands $6 million from the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Houston, claiming the Bureau gave it the runaround and publicly disparaged it, apparently to punish it for Student Movers' complaints to the BBB's corporate headquarters.
Student Movers, a former member of the BBB, said it tried to rejoin the group, and was told it had to pay $300 and resolve all the complaints filed against it within the past 3 years. It says it did this, then the BBB said it had to resolve all the complaints against it within the past 6 years. It says it did this, then the BBB said it had to resolve all the complaints against it within the past 10 years.
After this runaround, Student Movers says, it met with a representative of the BBB, where "a representative of BBB, Dan Parsons, stated that if SMI [Student Movers Inc.] complained again to the home office in Virginia, SMI would never be a member with BBB. Since that time, BBB has repeatedly published false and or misleading information with the presumed intent of harming the business of SMI. SMI complained each time said false or misleading information was published, and BBB would always correct said published information. However, after numerous publications of like information, SMI now believes that said acts are intentional on the part of BBB and are done with malicious intent to harm SMI."
Student movers demand $1.5 million for business disparagement and deceptive trade, and treble damages. It is represented in Harris County Court by Ike Exezidis.
