$40,000 Owed for Cop-Killer Tip, Man Says

PATERSON, N.J. (CN) - The City of Paterson and Passaic County offered $60,000 for a tip that would lead them to a cop killer, but paid only $20,000 to the man who provided it, the man claims in Passaic County Court.

Eugene James claims he gave the tip that led police to the man who killed Paterson police Officer Tyron Franklin on Jan. 7, 2007.

James says the Passaic County Sheriff's Office and the Paterson Police Department offered a total of $60,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer. James says he provided the information; the city paid him $15,000 and the Paterson Police Benevolent Association Local No. 1 paid $5,000.

That leaves $40,000 owing, he says. He wants the money, and costs.
