4 NYPD Officers|Admit to Conspiracy

MANHATTAN (CN) - Four New York City Police officers pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to transport guns and/or stolen goods across state lines, federal prosecutors said.

NYPD Officers Gary Ortiz, Joseph Trischitta, John Mahoney and Richard Melnik pleaded guilty on Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Co-conspirators Michael Gee and Eric Gomer pleaded guilty last week, prosecutors said.

All four officers who pleaded guilty on Monday worked out Brooklyn's 68th Precinct.

Ortiz, 28, of Brooklyn, faces up to 10 years in federal prison at his June 12 sentencing, and agreed to forfeit $18,000 he made from his crimes, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Trischitta, 42, of Staten Island, faces up to 10 years in prison at his July 6 sentencing and will forfeit $11,500.

Mahoney, 27, of Staten Island, faces up to five years in prison at his June 15 sentencing and will forfeit $4,500.

Gee, 50, of Staten Island, faces up to 10 years in prison and will forfeit $5,000.

Melnik, 43, of Staten Island, faces up to five years in prison at his July 6 sentencing and will forfeit $5,000.

Gomer, 28, of Rhode Island, N.Y. (sic) faces up to five years in prison at his May 30 sentencing and will forfeit $5,000.

The U.S. Attorney's Office's statement contains conflicting statements about whether Gee or Melnik pleaded guilty on Monday or last week, but it says that both men pleaded guilty.
