3M’s forever chemicals

CHICAGO — The Seventh Circuit allowed Illinois to remand its environmental claims against 3M to state court. 3M allegedly contaminated the Mississippi River with PFAS chemicals, but asserts a federal government contractor defense, alleging the contamination was caused by a chemical provided to the military’s Rock Island Arsenal installation. The defense does not apply to PFAS chemicals sourced from that facility.
