(CN) — Taking an unusually strong stance against Saudi Arabia before the U.N.'s human rights body, three dozen Western countries demanded Thursday that the Gulf nation disclose "all information available" on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Ambassador Harald Aspelund of Iceland issued the statement on the group’s behalf at a meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, voicing concerns about "continuing arrests and arbitrary detentions of human rights defenders,” including women's rights activists, in Saudi Arabia.
Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October after writing critical articles about the kingdom.
