$35 Million Award for I-70 Fatality

COLUMBIA, Mo. (CN) - A Boone County jury awarded $35.25 million to the family of an elementary school principal who was killed in an accident on Interstate 70. The late Anita Gibbs, of Kansas City, was one of four women who died when a CenTra Trucking Co. truck rear-ended them.

Michigan-based CenTra Trucking employed George Albright Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn., the truck driver in the 2006 crash.

The Gibbs family's attorneys argued that Albright had driven without enough rest and had falsified his trucking logs when his truck slammed into the back of a car containing Gibbs and three other women. All four women died.

The families of the other women received a total of $18 million in a 2008 settlement.

Albright was found not guilty in 2008 of four counts of second-degree manslaughter.
