$32.3M jury award vacated for new trial

LAFAYETTE, La. — A federal court in Louisiana ordered a new trial on damages in this lawsuit involving insurers and a tree company whose employee was driving a box truck loaded with logs when he lost control of the vehicle, striking a woman’s car head-on. The jury awarded her $32.3 million in general damages in addition to $5.6 million in past and future medical expenses, but the evidence did not substantiate so high an award.
