SAN DIEGO (CN) - A man who "arrested" and "deported" a Filipina maid was sentenced Wednesday to 3 years in federal prison. Gregory Denny Jr., of Hemet, was sent directly to prison. His wife, Karen Denny, was sentenced to 5 years probation and ordered to get mental health counseling.
The Dennys pleaded guilty in November 2010 to impersonating a law enforcement official and/or aiding and abetting.
Due to a family dispute, the Dennys went to their victim's home in Hemet, where Greg Denny claimed he was a law enforcement officer and that he was going to deport her. The Dennys handcuffed and searched the 28-year-old woman, then took her to the Murrieta Border Patrol station, where Greg Denny falsely claimed to be a U.S. Marshal. The Border Patrol refused to take the woman into custody, so the Dennys drove her around for a while and then took her to the San Diego airport, where Greg Denny again misrepresented himself as a U.S. Marshal and told TSA officials that he was escorting a prisoner to a flight.
