$29.4 million RESPA settlement with PHH

FRESNO, Calif. — A federal court in California granted preliminary approval to a $29.4 million settlement between homeowners and PHH Mortgage, which allegedly gave kickbacks and fee-splits with mortgage insurers in violation of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. Each class member will receive $875 for each affected loan and class counsel is granted just over $9 million in attorney fees and $2 million in costs.
