1st Circuit

DEFAMATION, EDUCATION - The 1st Circuit affirmed dismissal of claims against university officials who allegedly defamed the plaintiff by erroneously describing a campus crime. University officials reasonably believed that they were required to issue the report under a federal statute that requires university to disclose crimes, so the university's conduct was covered by a qualified privilege, the court ruled. See ruling.
