$1M Plane Checks Ordered

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Aviation Administration plans to require inspection of engine blade connections for four U.S. airplanes with GE GE90 series engines, at $1 million per inspection, because eight blades have been reported to have fallen off.

If a blade falls off, the engine may fail. Damage also may be done to the airplane.

The engines generally are placed in Boeing 777-200LR, 777-300ER, and 777 Freighter series airplanes.
