LAS VEGAS (CN) - Eighteen people who say they contracted hepatitis C after being treated with reused syringes at endoscopy clinics in the Las Vegas Valley have settled their lawsuits.
Judge Allan Earl said Monday that 18 patients will get an undisclosed amount from Nevada Mutual Insurance, according to published reports. Details of the settlements remained private.
About 5,000 lawsuits were filed in Clark County Court after the Southern Nevada Health District in 2008 recommended 49,000 patients get tested for hepatitis B and C and HIV after being treated at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.
The Southern Nevada Health District has linked nine cases of hepatitis C linked to the endoscopy centers.
