$150,000 Award in Day-Care Case

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (CN) - A Madison County jury awarded $150,000 to a couple who claimed a day care provider stomped on their child's head. Sossity and Joel Laleman sued Jane Tolhurst and John Welle of the Carrousel Too Day Care Center.

The Lalemans claimed in their 2007 lawsuit that Welle had stomped on their 4-year-old child's head in 2006.

During trial, a former coworker testified that Welle acted aggressively toward children and stomped twice on the head of the Lalemans' child.

Tolhurst testified that that employee, who was pregnant at the time of the incident, called police and made more of the incident than it was because she wanted to quit her job and collect unemployment.
