14 Years for Brutal Attack

JOLIET, Ill. (CN) - A man who gouged out his elderly uncle's eye in a fight over a lost TV remote control was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Exulam Holman, 33, attacked his uncle, Melvin Clifford, last New Year's Eve.

State prosecutors said Holman pushed Clifford down stairs, pinned him to the ground and gouged out Clifford's eyes with his thumbs. Clifford lost one eye and the vision in another is limited, The Associated Press reported.

A Will County jury convicted Holman in August of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a senior citizen.

He was sentenced on Thursday.
