$13 Million Award|in Tech Patent Case

RENO, Nev. (CN) – A federal judge ordered a Massachusetts company to pay Nevada-based Server Technology $13 million for violating two power strip patents.
Server Technology, of Reno, sued American Power Conversion Corp. in 2006, for violating its patents on a “Vertical-Mount Electrical Power Distribution Plugstrip” and “Network-Connecting Power Manager for Remote Appliances.”
U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks issued the judgment Tuesday, citing American Power’s “obviousness invalidity defense and defendant’s inequitable conduct defense and counterclaim.”
The total award came to $13,039,881.
Update: On May 21, Hicks ordered American Power Conversion to pay ongoing royalties to Server in the amount of 15 percent of gross sales of 24 of its licensed products.
