CHICAGO (CN) - A federal jury awarded $12 million to an inmate at an Illinois prison after finding that officials knowingly withheld his seizure medication.
Ray Fox, 50, was serving time at Stateville Correctional Center in Joliet on a drug offense in 2007 when he suffered the seizure.
Fox had the seizure in his cell and suffered a serious head injury as a result, The Associated Press reported. Fox's attorneys said he was left partially blind and is unable to walk or care for himself due to his injuries.
Fox and fellow inmates had been asking prison personnel to give Fox his seizure medication in the days before the episode, according to the AP.
Jurors found on Friday that prison officials knew Fox needed the medication but failed to give it to him.
