MANHATTAN (CN) - A Queens woman was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for defrauding immigrants of $500,000 by claiming she could get them legal status, and for using a client's name to get a credit card she used for herself.
Clover A. Perez ran Reliable Clerical Services Inc. dba Reliable Immigration Services in Queens from 2005 through 2008, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement announcing here 121-month sentence.
She made more than $500,000 by charging her clients "thousands of dollars per application" for preparing and submitting immigration forms she filled out with false statements, to seek relief for which she knew they were not entitled, prosecutors said.
Perez, 45, of Elmont, N.Y., also was ordered to forfeit $500,000 and pay restitution to her victims.
