1 Million Lbs.|of Pistachios Recalled

(CN) - A California company will recall 1 million lbs. of pistachios and pistachio products because of fears of salmonella, federal officials said Monday. Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella will recall its entire 2008 crop after Kraft Foods found salmonella contamination and notified the FDA.

No poisonings have been linked to the nuts, which were shipped in ton and half-ton bags to dozens of wholesalers, who repackaged and resold them, the FDA said. The agency warned people not to eat pistachios until the situation has been clarified.Setton claims to be the second-largest pistachio processor in the country. The recall comes just two months after hundreds of people were sickened by salmonella-tainted peanuts. Salmonella, causes violent food poisoning, can be fatal.
