(CN) - Businesses across the United States added 147,000 jobs in October the slowest job growth in four months, payroll provider ADP said Wednesday.
The number was down from the 202,000 jobs added in September and is evidence of continued weakness in the manufacturing and construction industries.
Overall, however, the numbers suggest the economy is growing at a slow, but sustained pace.
Hiring in October was led by hotels, restaurants and entertainment firms, which added 38,000 positions, followed by health care, which gained 34,000.
Manufacturers trimmed 1,000 jobs and construction companies cut 15,000.
