Texas Attorney Accused of Domestic Violence

HOUSTON (CN) - An attorney in a "drug-fueled rage" strangled and beat his teenage girlfriend so badly she was hospitalized, according to her lawsuit and a police report.

Mariah Corpuz sued Ali Mokaram aka Ali Mokarram on Oct. 21 in Harris County Court.

The 6-page lawsuit gets right to the point: "This case arises as a result of a severe and lengthy beating inflicted by defendant, a 45-year-old attorney licensed by the State Bar of Texas, upon plaintiff, then 18 years old.

"Mr. Mokaram used his power and influence to entice plaintiff during her youth into a relationship, eventually flying her to Las Vegas in June 2014 along with his friend and another associate of his.

"During the stay, Mr. Mokaram, apparently in a drug fueled rage, inflicted a severe, lengthy and ongoing beating upon plaintiff which only ceased when law enforcement intervened."

Mokaram was arrested and charged with two felony counts of domestic battery by strangulation, court records show.

According to the arrest report , Las Vegas police Officer G. McAnally was dispatched to the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas hotel on June 17.

"The details of the call were a female calling from the bathroom to report a domestic dispute," the charging document states.

"Wynn security opened the door after no one answered. We announced ourselves as police officers and entered, due to exigent circumstances. We located a battered female at the top of the stairs in the hotel room. The female pointed to a male in one of the bedrooms as her boyfriend and the one who battered her."

Mokaram and Corpuz told police they had argued because Corpuz "did not return to the room the night before and spent the night elsewhere," McAnally wrote in the report.

Mokaram said he was also angry because Corpuz told him "she had been with someone else," the report states.

"Mokaram stated no physical violence occurred and Maiah showed up at the room looking battered," the document states. "Maiah, who was only clothed in a bathrobe when initially contacted, stated Mokaram punched her several times in the face, attempted to strangle her with her dress, threw a chair at her, and caused her to 'black out' twice. Maiah stated Mokaram took her cell phone from her.

"Mokaram did not have any visible injuries. Maiah had two black eyes, mostly swollen shut, and visible marks on her neck."

The arrest document refers to Corpuz as Maiah; the lawsuit calls her Mariah.

In the lawsuit, Corpuz seeks damages for assault and battery and conspiracy to inflict emotional distress.

She claims in the petition that Mokaram and a business associate of his engaged in "intimidating, manipulative, and misleading communications with her" after she told them she has a lawyer.

Corpuz seeks a temporary restraining order, claiming Mokaram is trying to derail her case.

"The defendant's conduct, including attempts to induce the plaintiff to sign legal documents after administering intoxicating substances and illegal drugs, serves no purpose but to further defendant's attempts to manipulate plaintiff outside the presence of her counsel and subvert the administration of justice in this case," the complaint states.

Corpuz is represented by John Grazier of Houston.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Corpuz's attorney noted in an email after this story ran that "unexpected information regarding the case" led him to file an amended petition one day after the original filing, omitting any reference to Mokaram's business partner.
