Poll Aggregator Shows Clinton Up by 3 Percent Over Trump

(CN) — Depending on which poll one reads, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton may have a roughly 3 percent lead over GOP nominee Donald Trump heading into Election Day.

Clinton leads Trump in several national polls released Monday, but polls at or above 50 percent in just one poll. Meanwhile, two polls predict Trump will win the presidency in two polls, and uncertainty in Florida represents Clinton's great electoral weakness since she leads in several other key battleground states.

The polls reflect the controversies that have dogged both camps. Trump has been dealing with the fallout from the "Access Hollywood" tapes, while Clinton has weaved and bobbed under a one-two punch of the leak of her campaign chair's emails and the FBI's fresh look into her private server emails.

Using an average of national polls taken between Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, the website RealClearPolitics projects Clinton will receive 47.2 percent and Trump 44.3 percent, giving Clinton a 2.9 percent margin of victory.

The projection also shows Clinton wins even when third-party candidates — Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson — are thrown into the mix, averaging 45.5 percent with a margin of victory of 3.2 percent.

If Clinton holds on to win, the focus of the election may turn to several close Senate races, with Democrats and Republicans both hoping to pick up seats.

According to RealClearPolitics, six GOP senators are involved in elections that it calls "toss-ups." And two other open seats are up for grabs with Sen. Dan Coats, R- Indiana, and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, both retiring.

Clinton and Trump published opposing opinion pieces in USA Today on Monday, outlining their visions for the nation and solutions to current problems while avoiding the myriad controversies surrounding them on the eve of the election.
