HELENA, Mont. (CN) — As expected, an effort to ban recreational trapping on public land in Montana failed on Tuesday, with 63 percent of Montanans voting against the measure.
A poll taken a few weeks earlier had predicted a similar ratio of voters for and against Initiative 177.
Still, more than 180,000 supported the initiative and that could give trappers pause as they try to pass trapping-protection bills in the upcoming Legislature.
