(CN) – Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach was defeated by his Democratic challenger Laura Kelly in the Kansas gubernatorial race Tuesday night in a tight contest.
Kobach, best known for his anti-illegal immigration laws and being co-chair of President Donald Trump’s short lived voter fraud commission, was beat by the Democratic state senator 50-41 percent with 65 percent of precincts reporting in by 9:30 p.m. CST.
Although Kansas has traditionally been a red state, its voters have elected a fair share of Democrats for governor. Independent candidate and businessman Greg Orman picked up just 6 percent of the vote.
