WASHINGTON (CN) - A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted the man accused of firing a gun to get to the bottom of a tangled "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory that ties the Hillary Clinton campaign to a fictional child-sex ring.
Edgar Welch, 28, faces a federal charge of interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition, as well as two charges under D.C. law of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.
The federal charges carries a prison term of up to 10 years, while the D.C. charges carry sentences of 10 and 15 years in prison, respectively.
Welch was originally charged in D.C. Superior Court but his case was moved to federal court on Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in court again Friday morning for a combined detention hearing and arraignment.
