George Zimmerman’s Wife Files for Divorce

SANFORD, Fla. (CN) - The wife of Trayvon Martin's killer George Zimmerman will file for divorce today, a week after she told network news she would "think about staying married to him."

Shellie Zimmerman's attorney announced the divorce filing Thursday and said he planned to file it today (Friday) in Seminole County Court. The Zimmermans have been married for 6 years.

A state jury in July acquitted George Zimmerman of the second-degree murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty last week to misdemeanor perjury charges for lying to a judge about not having enough money to post bond for her husband.

She was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and one year's probation and had to write a letter of apology to the judge.

Since her husband killed Martin, Shellie Zimmerman told ABC News, they have been living like gypsies, with security guards, in fear for their lives.

They received several death threats and once lived in a trailer in the woods, she said.

Shellie Zimmerman said she believes, as the jury did, that her husband shot Martin in self-defense. She said it was hurtful for her to hear him described as a "murderer or some sort of racist."
