Chicago Police Under Fire for Killing Paul O’Neal

CHICAGO (CN) — Days after her son's July 28 death, a woman claims in a federal complaint that police had no justification to shoot 18-year-old Paul O'Neal in the back during a traffic stop.

The Chicago Tribune reported Saturday that the city has relieved three of the officers involved in O'Neal's death of their police powers based on the possibility that they violated department policies in the shooting.

Police say O'Neal sideswiped a squad car and hit a parked car while driving a stolen Jaguar, injuring some officers, according to the Tribune's article.

An investigation of Chicago police by the U.S. Department of Justice has been ongoing since the fatal shooting last year of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
