Amputee Blames County for Lost Fingers

EUREKA, Calif. (CN) - A woman who lost part of her fingers in a motorcycle accident sued the hospital that failed to reattach them and Humboldt County, which she says failed to provide "proper planning, supervision protocols or resources to the other defendant," so they could save her fingers.

Nancy Nunez sued Redwood Memorial Hospital and the county in Humboldt County Court.

Nunez says she "was improperly treated and not promptly transferred by air to a medical facility where her amputated fingers could be reattached."

She also claims "improper handling and preservation for reattachment of the amputated portions of her fingers."

Nunez says the county should have planned for accidents such as this one.

She seeks damages for medical malpractice, negligence, medical expenses, loss of earnings and earning capacity, housekeeping services, loss of enjoyment, costs and interest.

She is represented by Kirk Barry of Los Angeles.
