Attorney Will Join Police Officer in Prison
SANTA ANA, Calif. (CN) - A 70-year-old attorney on Monday was sentenced to a year and a day in prison, where he will join a police officer who is serving 33 months for their bribery scheme.
A federal jury convicted Lawrence Anthony Witsoe, of Mission Viejo, of conspiring to get a criminal case against a client dismissed through bribery.
His co-defendant, Aaron Scott Vigil, was a Rialto police officer assigned to a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration task force. Vigil was sentenced in September.
Witsoe's law license has been suspended.
A jury convicted him and Vigil of conspiring to solicit a $2,500 bribe from one of Witsoe's clients, who was charged with assault. Vigil was to testify to the Orange County District Attorney's Office that the client had been cooperating with the DEA, prosecutors said in a statement.
In addition to conspiracy, Witsoe was convicted of soliciting the bribe and offering a bribe to Vigil.
