Feds Shut Down Illegal Droid Application Sites
(CN) - Federal prosecutors shut down three websites that hosted pirated applications for Android phones - the first-ever crackdown of its kind.
The government executed seizure orders against applanet.net, appbucket.net and snappzmarket.com after an international investigation with Dutch and French authorities, among others.
Prosecutors say this is first time a website involving illegal cellphone apps has been seized.
The FBI agents involved in the investigation downloaded thousands of copies of copyrighted apps from the websites, which hosted them without permission.
Authorities said most of the servers that hosted the apps were in other countries.
On Tuesday, the government executed nine search warrants across the country in connection with the investigation.
