Fish and Wildlife Agency Bans Duck Transport

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency has placed a ban on transport of live Muscovy ducks, or fertile Muscovy duck eggs, outside of areas where the species occurs naturally for any purpose other than food production. The Muscovy duck is considered an invasive species in other parts of the country but is often imported by duck hunters seeking to enhance local duck populations.

Citizen Asks Nuke Agency for Financial Guarantees

WASHINGTON (CN) - Sherwood Martinelli, a long time, self described anti-nuclear activist, has filed a petition with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission asking that the NRC require operators of nuclear facilities whose licenses are within five years of expiration to provide annual reports on their ability to pay for decommission of their plants.
According to his petition, Mr. Martinelli believes that given the current ill health of the economy that the current two year reporting requirement is not adequate to ensure the safety and adequacy of funds set aside for plant decommissioning.
Mr. Martinelli's petition also calls upon the NRC to require licensees to top off decommission funds within 90 days if a shortfall in the estimated amount need for decommissioning is reported.
