High Court Passes on H.S. Religious Speech Issue

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal from a Las Vegas-area high school valedictorian who said her constitutional rights were violated when school officials turned off her microphone during her religion-themed graduation speech.
The high court declined to revive Brittany McComb's Federal lawsuit filed in 2006. A federal appeals court had previously sided with the Clark County School District and dismissed her complaint.
McComb said officials turned off her microphone during her speech at Foothill High School in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson because she gave a graphic account of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and credited God for her success.
